Reflective Narrative
This course allowed me to expand my knowledge on Chicano literature through several types of autobiographies, testimonies, life histories and telenovelas.
Many of the literary works that we read in class, reflected experiences, hardships, and the lives of the authors and how they overcame all of those obstacles to become who they are now. One of the literary works that I enjoyed reading and that I felt a personal connection with, was the poem "I am Joaquin" written by Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales. This poem describes the hardships of a Chicano living in a world of confusion, where he is constantly looked down upon for not being not Mexican enough nor American enough. I personally felt a connection with this piece, because growing up in this country made me realize that even though I was born here, I felt unwanted, on one side my my Mexican people and on the other by the Americans.
Finally, in order to apply our knowledge and skills developed in this course, we created our own autobiographies; one digital and one art piece. These pieces were supposed to reflect some difficulties in our lives and demonstrate how we overcame them.

This is the piece of art I created in this class titled "Two Worlds", which demonstrates the two sides of me; my Mexican roots as well as the American side.
